Very engaging. The author does an excellent job of moving between scenes and time spaces without disrupting the reader's involvement in the story. Her descriptions of scenes are very vivid and easy to visualize. I haven't read novels for many years and this book kept me engaged and reading every day until I finished it. Her extensive research into the details of weapons, vehicles and other futuristic phenomenon was obvious. When an author makes an obvious mistake in detail, it often jolts me out of my engagement with the story. That did not happen in this book. Although the author's explicit depiction of sex and rape scenes may have been justified to some degree by the plot of the story, nevertheless, I found them to be more frequent and graphic than necessary. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book, and although the abrupt and inconclusive ending left me somewhat unfulfilled it also wetted my appetite for what I hope will be a sequel in the near future. In summary, I would highly recommend the book and will seek out another of the author's future works because of her engaging plot and writing style.

Rarely have I read a book that made me feel so much. It's a dark, intense, emotional read. At times, I felt pity, annoyance, heartbreak and joy. The characters have depth and layers. Despite the very graphic rape scenes, the Author left me wanting to read more. What "is" next for Karla?

The author has created a cast of compelling characters and a plot line with complex, psychological layers. Great first novel!
